EME2040 Blog Journal 4: Later Than Usual

Hey everyone! I am working on this blog journal a bit later than I normally would. You see, I usually prefer to do all of my work for EME2040 on Monday or Tuesday, but this week I was faced with some personal distractions as well as two upcoming papers that I felt more comfortable knocking out of the way before I did anything for this class. What I now realize is that this kind of sucks for anyone in my group! Sorry guys, the page will get posted today! I'm working on it right after I do this journal.

The grade I chose is 6-8 and the standard I chose is LAFS.68.1.2. This standard is about taking large amounts of data and information and summarizing it for class consumption. Its described in a much more complex manor on the website, but it really is as simple as that. The question is, am I ready to implement this? Yes, absolutely, without question, easily. I'm a History major (I think I say that once a blog post), summarizing large amounts of information is the number one thing that I have learned how to do!

CPALMS amirite guys! What the hell is B.E.S.T math? Doesn't matter, what does matter is the CPALMS tool I picked and how I would use it in a classroom! Which I have not found, because I am still figuring out what to do on this website while I write this! I have picked 1st grade science, because science blows kids minds, and its adorable. Wait, no, I have found something more valuable! Teaching them to respect tech! Thats wonderful! If they're taught how to respect their tech (loving that rhyme) in 1st grade then I save all the other teachers from massive headaches. They would get taught how to properly turn a computer off and on, and how to log out so all of their information doesn't get stolen. This would be a week 2 thing everyone, It'd be awesome.

I don't think I did that last paragraph correctly, but my brain is absolutely everywhere right now and we are going to truck on. I mean, its a whole paragraph on CPALMS, so I'm good!

Anywho, internet searching! The internet contains all human knowledge that has ever existed and millions of sources to engage with. When you put it that way, its probably important for us as educators to know how to properly use it. There are billions of search results, and we need to sift through the muck to find what we need. The more proficient we are, the more quickly we get info we may need, the more effecient we are at our jobs. My favorite search tool that I did not know about and will be using frequency is the one where you put an asterisk in place of words you do not remember in your search. Thats incredible! I wish I had known about that. Its going to be a frequently used tool, I can't find books because I don't remember the exact title all the time!

Alright everyone reading! This was a horribly written journal, so thanks for reading the full thing. The important thing is that it covered the bases. I am going to make a PBWorks account now! Bye!

  1. Awesome post. Made me think about how I should really start doing my assignments at the beginning of the week as well!
