EME2040 Blog Journal 4: Later Than Usual

Hey everyone! I am working on this blog journal a bit later than I normally would. You see, I usually prefer to do all of my work for EME2040 on Monday or Tuesday, but this week I was faced with some personal distractions as well as two upcoming papers that I felt more comfortable knocking out of the way before I did anything for this class. What I now realize is that this kind of sucks for anyone in my group! Sorry guys, the page will get posted today! I'm working on it right after I do this journal. The grade I chose is 6-8 and the standard I chose is LAFS.68.1.2. This standard is about taking large amounts of data and information and summarizing it for class consumption. Its described in a much more complex manor on the website, but it really is as simple as that. The question is, am I ready to implement this? Yes, absolutely, without question, easily. I'm a History major (I think I say that once a blog post), summarizing large amounts of information is the number one thing ...

EME2040 Blog Journal 3: Copyright, Fair Use, and the grey area between the two.

Copyright and Fair Use were popular topics on the internet a couple of years ago. Of course, this is back when I cared about what happened on the internet. The general question then was over what constituted Fair Use. For example; if someone does a reaction to your movie trailer on Youtube, then does that constitute fair use?  I imagine this question still continues to be subject of many legal battles today, because Copyright laws are very complicated. What is Copyright though? Copyright is establishment of ownership over something that is originally created; it is a protection for creators, that give them the exclusive rights to profit off of their creation. Seems simple enough; if you create a product with your mind, then you have the right to own it. Then how does Fair Use come into play? Fair Use is a protection from Copyright holders, where if something is used in a manner that does not generate profit or is used for educational purposes then you do not have to pay the C...

EME2040 Blog Journal 2

I actually didn't start using Microsoft Word until I got to FSU. In highschool I used GoogleDocs to take notes. I ran into three issues at FSU that resulted in a switch to Microsoft Word. Issue 1-  I had to write papers now, and GoogleDocs is awful for formating proper Chicago style papers with footnotes. Issue 2- I had to turn assignments in using Canvas, and instructors required Word Documents more often than not. I was converting my GoogleDocs assignments to Word Documents anyway at that point. Issue 3- Google Docs has an input lag that I never noticed until the speed at which I take notes had to drastically increase to keep up with my professors. Microsoft Word won out, and I use it every single day. The ISTE Standard that resonates with me most is the Citizen Standard 3b. 3b states "Establish a learning culture that promotes curiosity and critical examination of online resources and fosters digital literacy and media fluency". This is a premise that is critical to e...

EME2040 Class Blog 1: Introducing me.

Hello readers! I am Styles, and this is my first ever blogpost of any kind. My mother blogged for a while, and even won an award for it so it makes sense that I would end up writing one eventually; it must be a genetic trait. To be fully honest, I am not comfortable sharing information about myself online. I barely have a public online presence, which is not without purpose. I believe strongly in first impressions, and I want to be in control of them. If someone dislikes me or judges me then so be it, but I want those judgements to come from private interaction and not a public presence. This is all a very long winded way to say that I will not be sharing a lot of personal information about myself on here, especially while I am using my real name. You, the reader, will get to know me through my reading. One impression you may already have, I am a verbose individual that has not yet mastered the skill known as brevity. Thats enough about me; its time to make my way through the othe...
